Biography of Kulman Ghising : Here’s a Short Biography of Present MD of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Mr. Kulman Ghising and His achievement in Electric and Hydropower Sector of Nepal.

Kulman Ghising was born on November 25, 1970 in the remote village of Bethan in Ramechhap. Kulman used to read by lightning tuki (spirit lamp) in the village. He used to sit next to Tuki till late at night to study. Kulman comppleted his primary education in the village. After passing 5th class, he went to Kathmandu with his brothers. There, He studied at Balseva Secondary School and later at Amaras Boarding School.

Kulman always stood first in the school. When he came to Kathmandu, He saw electricity for the first time. After that, he swore, “I will make my Bethan village Bright like kathmandu.” Now he has lighten his Bethan Village. And, not only Bethan Village, he has freed the country from 18 hours long load shedding Problem.

After doing ISC from Askal Campus, he did electrical engineering in 1994 from Jamshedpur of India on scholarship. He did his Masters in Power Systems Engineering from Pulchowk Campus, Kathmandu. And, Also He did his thesis in Integrated Resource Planning with Demand Side Management (IRPDSM). Kulman is not only an engineer but also a well skilled manager. He has also done MBA in Management from the Pokhara University.

After finishing engineering in 1994 from India, he returned to Nepal in 2051 BS and became a seventh level engineer in Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
While working in Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Kulman got the responsibility of Chilime Hydropower Project. He Completed the Project before time. He also proved that power projects can also be built only with the Nepal’s investment, which later became a turning point for his personal career.

Kulman not only made the project successful in a timely way, but also made the locals rich by giving shares of the Project. After the brokers started snatching the shares of Chilime Project from the People, He returned the shares worth around Rs. 70 million from the same village to all the local shareholders. Due to this incident, the people of Rasuwa have kept him in their lurch.

Ghising was appointed as Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in September of 2016. After that, He started a test in NEA to end the energy scarcity(loadshedding ) Problem. On the basis of the success of the test, he succeeded in ending load shedding nationwide from 1 April 2073 BS on the Holy day of Tihar (One of the Main Festivals of Hindu).

Some Achievements of Kulman Ghising:

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has earned a profit of Rs 11.04 billion in a very short time period. Before, NEA Was at a great loss. Also, Nepal Electricity Authority has become the most profit earning government institution at this time.

Electricity leakage was very high about 26% before 4 Years. At the present day, it has dropped down to 15.27%. As a result, 11% Leakage has been Controlled.

Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director, Mr.Kulman Ghising has been honored by Several institutions and Government. He was honored by IPPAN (Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal) an organization of private energy producing sector, for his contribution to the nation’s economic growth as well as for Ending Load Shedding Problem.

During his tenure, Every Nepali Dream I.E., the dream of Brighter Nepal, has also been fulfilled.
